Family Tree
My maternal 2x great grandmother, Mathilde (Matilda) Stieler, was born 23 Jun 1836 in Germany. She was the daughter of Christian Stieler and Dorothy Helin. It appears the family at some point resided in Konigsee. Located in the central part of Germany, Konigsee is a town in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in the densely forested state of Thuringia.
She married Charles Erhard (1833-1884) on 15 Nov 1861 (whose origins are from Wurttemberg), both of whom had come to the United States and settled in Greenfield, MA.
Mathilde and Charles produced five children:
Louis Erhardt (1862-1938)- my maternal grandmother's father
Louise Erhard (1863-19280
Edward Henry Erhard (1866-1917)
Otto Olvin Erhard (1868-1943)
Delia Erhard (1874-1893)
The Erhard (Erhart, Erhardt) family lived in Greenfield, MA for at least three decades.
Mathilde passed on 9 Mar 1910 at 73 from emphysema complications.
Her notice was in one of the Greenfield papers noted here:
A possible sister for Mathilde was identified. According to the MA Death Register, Sophia Stieler, age 24, died of typhoid on 15 August 1870 in Greenfield, MA. She was single, worked as a servant and was listed as the daughter of Christian and Dorothy Stieler (nee Helin) of Germany. This record renders her birth +/- 1846, which would make her about 10 years younger than Mathilde.
Mathilde (Mathilde Stieler- Find-A-Grave), her husband Charles, her sister Sophie,her daughter (Louise) and son (Otto) are all buried in Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA, as are other related family members. Children are listed beneath Mathilde's name, her husband is a jump thought to the left and related thoughts to the parent thought (in this case, Green River Cemetery), are up and off to the right.
