Canton Davis Ball

Captain F. H. Clapp, Lieutenant A. W. Gray, Ensign W. A. Ball, Clerk E. D. Temple and Chevalier C. O. Douville of Canton Davis, Patriarchs Militant, attended the sixth annual concert and ball of Canton Chapin in Springfield Thursday Evening.  They were delightfully entertained and speak with much praise of the drilling by a squad belonging to the canton.  This squad will give an exhibition drill at the Canton Davis ball here next Thursday evening. 

Note: W. A. Ball was Wallace A Ball, who married my 2x great grandmother, Frances Stevens. Frances was Lena Burdett's mother and originally married to Lena's father, Thomas Burdett, who died young.

Frances married Wallace.  It was also Wallace's second marriage, having first married Lizzie Elder.

Wallace had two children with Lizzie; Ethel and Harry Adelbert Ball.

Louis Erhardt, my great grandfather, was married to Lena Burdett, and was the father of the six Erhardt children; Elsie, Mabel, Lucille, Elva (Elvie), Charles Wallace and Adelbert "Dob" Erhardt.

Family Gathering

My grandmother, Mabel Esther Erhardt, married Charles Gilbert Rivers, Sr. His parents were Fred Napolean Rivers (LaRiviere) and Kate May Noyes.  My grandmother's sisters were Elsie, Elvie and Lucille Erhardt along with her two brothers, Adelbert (Dob) and Charles Wallace Erhardt.  Ethel Blanche Ball was the daughter of Wallace Ball. Wallace's second wife, Frances Stevens, was the mother of my grandmother's mother, Lena Burdette (who died after the birth of her sixth son, Adelbert "Dob" Erhardt).

Summer Ski Camp- Mt. Baker, 1961

The above belonged to my father, Fred Augustus Clough III.

He and his brother, Jeffory Clough, attended a ski racing camp in WA state. Starting from Maine, they traveled by bus with about twenty other students across the U.S. and visited many national parks along the way back.

The race camp instructor was a top Austrian ex-racer.

The way my father remembers it, it was about 10 days out in a converted school bus, 10 days of racing camp, then 10 days back.

Wedding Cake Topper

This wedding cake topper from Valencia Bakery in NY, was from my parents, Fred Augustus Clough III and Carol Elizabeth Rivers, wedding back in 1967. Like the engagement party topper, she saved this one for many years.

Engagement Party Ring Topper

My mother, Carol Elizabeth Rivers, had saved this topper ring from her engagement party, circa 1967.  If you look closely below, you'll see the topper above on the cake.  This picture was taken at my grandmother's, Mabel Esther Erhardt, home in Cape Elizabeth, ME.

My mother did several scrapbooks in her lifetime.  One of them contained the following card, which is appropriate to share here.

Sophie J. Kantauskis

Sophie was my great grandmother and wife of John Julius Kantauskis. She was born 15 May 1895 and died 6 Dec 1959.

John Julius Kantauskis

John Julius Kantauskis was my paternal great-grandfather. Born 1 May 1895 in Lithuania, he passed away 3 Apr 1980 at 84. To my knowledge, he had four siblings and married Sophie J. Juskus 31 Oct 1914.  They would have three kids; one of which was my grandmother, Josephine Bernice Kantauskis.

My paternal grandfather, Fred Augustus Clough Jr. (second from left, standing) and grandmother, Josephine Bernice Kantauskis (seated). While he was in the papers frequently, this is a rare photo of them together.  My grandfather would have been around 30 yo. My grandmother, 29.

Louis Erhardt

Louis Erhardt was my maternal great-grandfather and father of my grandmother, Mabel Esther Erhardt.

He was born 23 May 1862 in Greenfield, MA to Mathilde Stieler and Charles Erhard and died 26 Jan 1938, also in Greenfield, MA, at age 75.
